DRILL POINT

Drill Points are thus categorized on the basis of its ability to penetrate thinner to thicker gauge metal respectively. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that screws with such point types should be selected for the function of drilling into medium to heavy gauge steel.

TRI-LOBULAR® THREAD POINT

The Tri-Lobular® Thread Point utilizes its thread rolling design to facilitate the grains of the mating material to reform to the thread contour rather than be sheared during tapping. HIFIX Fasteners recommends these screw points when requiring a stronger fit.

PHILLIPS DRIVE

Used commonly, the Phillips Drive is designed to prevent the screw from overdriving into materials such as MGO boards, Gypsum etc. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that these drive types be opted for applications like drywalls and not as a suitable choice for steel frame assemblies.

SQUARE DRIVE

With a four-sided recess, the Square Drive allows higher torque than the Phillips Drive. HIFIX Fasteners recommends it as the perfect selection when doing light gauge steel framing.

FLAT HEAD

The Flat Head is ideal when the screw must fit flush within the dimple to allow for a smooth finish for cladding or lining materials over the top. HIFIX Fasteners recommends this low profile head as apt for steel framing applications.

HEX WASHER HEAD WITH NEOPRENE WASHER

Same as the Hex Washer Head, this is additionally fitted with a removable neoprene washer on the other side of the built-in washer. HIFIX Fasteners recommends such heads as the perfect decision for roofing and cladding applications because of its specific design giving a waterproofing seal around the hole and fastening.

COUNTERSUNK HEAD

The Countersunk Head is suited to sit easily into engineered timber, fiber cement and MGO boards. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that it be utilized when desiring a smooth finish.

PAN HEAD
The Pan Head is for high torque. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that this type of head be chosen for metal to metal applications.

Defined as the total length of penetration, the right length of the screw can be determined in two different ways depending on the type of screw head.

A. Length measured from underside of the Head to the End of the Point

This method of determining length is used for Hex Head Screws, Button Head Screws, Pan Head Screws and Wafer Head Screws

B. Length measured from Top of the Head to the End of the Point

This mode is utilized to measure the length for Countersunk Screws, Bugle Head Screws and Self-embedding Screws.

HIFIX Fasteners recommends that for successful connections when fastening to metal, the screw must be of sufficient length to ensure at least three threads are protruding through the fastened material. For this, the drill point length must be greater than the total thickness of the metal being fastened onto.

A. Threads Per Inch (TPI)

TPI is the number of thread crests that can be counted along a linear measurement of one inch or 25.4 mm.

B. Thread Length
HIFIX Fasteners recommends that you must always choose a fastener with sufficient threads to fully engage in the base metal. It is helpful but not critical that the threads also engage in the material being fastened.

C. Thread Pitch

The thickness of material being fastened and diameter of the screw determine the type of thread pitch to be used. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that in general, the thinner the fastened materials, the fewer the number of threads and the thicker the material, the greater the number of threads. This takes into account two modes of thread engagement: Clamping and Threading

There are various types of coatings that protect screws against environment conditions, corrosion etc. For its range of screws, HIFIX Fasteners uses the following types of coating:

A. Zinc Coating

Zinc Coating or Galvanised Steel offers a unique combination of properties unparalleled by other materials. HIFIX Fasteners recommends Zinc Coating when you require screws with high strength, formability, light weight, corrosion resistance, aesthetics, recyclability and low cost.

D. HX Coating

HIFIX Fasteners’ specially-developed HX Coating is the latest protective technique prepared with state-of-the art processes. This screw coating provides maximum resistance to corrosion and successfully resolves commonly-seen problems like abrasion, recess fill etc.

HIFIX Fasteners recommends the use of HX Coating for benefits like:

-Preventing recess fill for higher drive engagement & more torque transmission

-1000+ hours Salt Spray Treatment protection against corrosion

-No clogging of threads with thinner film build, which allows screws to be driven easily

– Extended product life with no damage during installation and wear & tear resistance

-Green method of application

SHARP POINT

With a pronounced tip, the Sharp Point can be distinguished through its dual or multiple threads coursing through the body. As one of its threads keeps diminishing until it disappears into the shank’s tapered part, the other thread keeps reducing in diameter until it fades into the screw’s pointed part. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that such screw points be used for interior lining applications (gypsum etc. ) and with pre-drilled holes for cladding applications.

WINGED DRILL POINT

Requiring no pre-drilling, while the Winged Drill point bores into the substrate, its wings counter drill the hole into larger than the thread diameter thus disengaging the thread from the substrate. As the point drills into the material, the wings fall off upon contact with the metal. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that screws with such point types as ideal for the purpose of fastening exterior cladding like timber, fiber cement and composite boards etc. to metal without the substrate rising to the surface of the screw through the drilling process of the metal.

B. Black Phosphate Coating

A standard finish for most drywall screws, Black Phosphate Coating provides minimal protection against corrosion. HIFIX Fasteners recommends Black Phosphate Coating only for dry non-corrosive applications.

C. Ruspert Coating

A new system of metal surface treatment, Ruspert Coating provides high performance for corrosion resistance. It includes three layers: a base coating of metallic zinc, a secondary chemical conversion layer and finally a baked ceramic surface coating. HIFIX Fasteners recommends Ruspert Coating for tapping and drilling screws, which need high anti-corrosion performance after drilling into the object e.g. timber and metal. Its availability in a variety of colours such as blue, brown, dark grey, silver, red etc. to match the aesthetics of the project is another major advantage.

COUNTERSUNK RIBBED HEAD

Similar to the Countersunk Head, the Countersunk Ribbed Head has cutting ribs on the underside. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that the Countersunk Ribbed Head be used in applications where the head of the screw must embed properly into the substrates.

WAFER HEAD

A variation of the Flat Head, the Wafer Head is also suited for applications when the screw must fit flush neatly into the dimple. HIFIX Fasteners recommends the Wafer Head for a smooth finish for cladding or lining materials over the top.

HEX WASHER HEAD

With high torque, the Hex Washer Head is the right choice for metal to metal applications. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that this head be selected for frame to frame, frame to truss and truss assembly connections.

BUGLE HEAD

The Bugle Head is so designed to reduce paper burrs for a cleaner finish with its secondary ring under its regular head. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that screws with Bugle Heads be chosen to eliminate paper burrs in gypsum board applications.

HEX DRIVE

With high torque, the large extruding Hex Drive provides extra head strength and stability with ease. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that the Hex Drive be used for metal to metal applications and not where other products need to go atop given its head size. A bonded washer is suggested when in need of watertight sealing.

TORX DRIVE

With its design, the Torx Drive achieves the desired torque consistently while preventing the screw driver to slip out of the screw head in the pursuit of that torque level. This ensures that the driver tip, screw head and/ or work piece do not get damaged during the process. HIFIX Fasteners recommends that these drives be chosen for better torque-limiting functions e.g. in factories thus avoiding cam-out.
